35/365: Took this shot at Cold Storage @ Green Heights Mall this morning before I was approached by the guards in the supermarket. Seems like its the norm these days. Maybe I should just switch back to my nifty PnS and shoot away unnoticed. =P
Anyway, I gladly kept my dSLR back into the bag without putting up a fight – for I’ve already snapped to my heart’s content! =D
Hmm. I’ve heard of this from my cousin before. He said he was shooting at tHe Spring when the guards approached him and told him to stop taking pictures. As far as I know, he didn’t break any law. Everyone’s just too paranoid these days lah.
“Oh, that person is taking photos. That person could be part of a terrorist plot/invading my privacy/taking photos of my young children.”
Blah. Infuriating. Anyway, rantings aside..I’m loving the bokeh. Man, how I wish I had a prime lens with me right now. Was wondering how much that lens of yours cost, by the way.
They even enforce this at The Spring now? God. Luckily the last time I was shooting there no guards approached me. And I even got a chance to shoot a few shots at the oh-so-strictly-no-cameras – Parkson.
Exactly! He definitely wasn’t breaking any law. Its perfectly legal to shoot inside private property such as malls that are accessible to the public. It’s only that all those guards have been through some twisted, paranoid briefing that all photographers with dSLRs are malicious.
That’s why I got this lens! My Dad got it for me at KL for MYR330 although I’ve heard via the forums that you can get it for a mere MYR290 in KL. It sells for MYR350 here in Kuching.
Ah so true.. I often experienced the same thing like you too. Even though I didn’t use a big DSLR but some guards still warned me not to take any photos around the mall area.
Btw, taking picture by using camera phone can be a bit dangerous too.. I ever took a sneaker’s pic by using camera phone in Nike store and then the shopkeeper approached and warned me immediately not to take any picture in the store.
Weird! It’s not like then I’m gonna take a sketchbook and hack the Nike’s design. I just wanna show it to my mom so she can buy it for me.
Well.. a skill is needed to take photos without the guards knowing. =P
Wow that sucks. I haven’t had this much attention from security personnel before I got my dSLR. I know its really frustrating how they ridiculously stop you from taking photos. For you case in the Nike store perhaps you could’ve explained to the shopkeeper your reason for taking the photo? I reckon he’ll be glad that your mom will return to buy it – we’re talking about a potential customer here! =D
I’ve tried to explain but he didn’t listen and just walked away. What a bad service.. =(
Hah! I would’ve continued snapping photos if he walks away. At least he wasn’t eyeing your every move nearby. =)
now would you agree with me if I say there are many funny funny things inside that mall which you’ve never seen in any other malls in Kuching but the price are all very ‘mesmerising’ too?
I’m impressed by how you take your dSLR everywhere you go. I feel uneasy to do so with my cam. (yea, my outdated cam is the main reason, but I sure don’t like attracting attentions too.)
What funny stuff exactly? I don’t go there all too often but you’re making it sound like I’m missing alot of fun stuff over at the Green Heights Mall. =P Prices are ‘mesmerising’ because Cold Storage is a gourmet supermarket – its only natural. There are a lot of stuff there you can’t find elsewhere.
As for taking my dSLR everywhere – that’s what you’d have to do for Project 365. And I hate seeing photographic opportunities wishing I had my camera with me so, now I bring it everywhere I go. =)
