109/365: ..chaos, redefined.
A massive downpour started during lunch at the campus’s (semi) outdoor cafeteria. I watched as chaotic droplets of H2O smash, splash and splatter among themselves onto the ground.
Thank you, Latrina! I love rain photography too – I could be doing it all day. Speaking of which, we’re in a rather dry season now so it doesn’t rain as much as it used to. =(
I am a little envious. It has been raining so much over here, a little too much! Lots of floods and storms. Two weeks of rain sure lessens your love and admiration for it. But a little rain in the middle of a warm and sunny week is refreshing!
Wow, really lovely photo you have there. I’ve always been trying to freeze the motion of water, but have failed epically all thanks to the limited aperture. I haven’t try it out with my new lens though, and I don’t think it’s easy heh. You must have taken quite a lot of shots too. Amazing work. LOVELY post-processing, seriously. I love the green hues in the image.
Thanks, Teddy. =) Well of course you should try out rain splatter shots with your 50mm! 50mm’s are magical I tell you. Now that you mentioned it, I’ve never tried doing them using my kit lens hmm.
Actually its not as hard as you think, Teddy. In fact, I had a hard time choosing which shot to make the cut because all of them had such beautiful splatters! =) You just need a blazing fast shutter speed, some fair share of luck, and.. something to cover your camera from all the stray water spray! Don’t wet your camera like I did. =(
I wonder, how was the lighting conditions and the ISO speed of the photo? Must be a magical, divine combination of all great conditions for high speed photography coupled with nothing less than a creative photographer behind the lenses amazing stuff!
I used ISO 400 to push the shutter speed into 2k-ish. It was rather bright – not really that dark and gloomy kind of rainy day you’d expect. Naw Teddy shots like this really isn’t all that hard! You really should try it. =)
[...] definitely a plus when it comes to photographing water. Ember has a few really nice water shots (#1, #2 and #3), some of which are done with his bokeh lens as well – thanks for the pointers, [...]
WOW! Love this!
Dude ur cam can really do magic!
Very pro shot!
Oh common. You know I’m the magic, not my camera. xD
Anyway, glad you liked it!

Very beautiful capture, Ember! Great description of it as well. I love the rain, especially the splashes and patter it creates.

Woah. Handphone also got my photo ah? Haha, very flattered now. =D
Wuuu nice one! How many attempts did it took you? XD
Not many..I guess. You can’t really go wrong taking splatters in such a heavy rain – there’s water everywhere. =)
